Agricom.id, JAKARTA – Economist of Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef), Bhima Yudhistira agreed with what ministry of agriculture does to vitalize the food diversity. He also emphasized that the food diversification should be immediately done in the eastern of Indonesia, including the right subsidy and valid data to map the alternative food production and possibility well.
“I agree with what ministry of agriculture does to vitalize the food diversification. If it is optimist, it could be faster,” he said when being called, Friday (26/6/2020) as in the official written statement to Agricom.id.
He thought that in the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic which is uncertain, food diversification is the urgent strategy of food, namely if seen from the food crisis threat. It is known that the food exporter countries, namely rice, do protectionism by reducing the export to others.
“Without food diversification, besides rice, food diversity is vulnerable to occur,” he said.
He also did welcome everything to do food diversification. In the export perspective, food diversification has something to do with the additional values and reduce the risks of one commodity that gets cheaper. He thought that the better food diversification is, the better economy and welfare farmers would be.
“For instance, the price of rice in the international level gets cheaper but the sorghum gets better. The farmers could switch to develop the better commodity,” he said.
Meanwhile, ministry of agriculture keeps urging the regional governments to develop the local food potential and takes the people to change their mindset that rice is not the only one source of carbohydrate,
Head of Badan Ketahanan Pangan (BKP), Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Hendriadi said that it needs to increase the production which is exponential, or non-linear to fulfill the food and nutrients by doing many things, such as, innovation, technology, intensification, development, modal procurement, and market access.
"BKP, Ministry of Agriculture has developed some good programs, such as, kawasan rumah pangan lestari (KRPL), kawasan mandiri pangan (KMP), food consumption diversification to increase the food production, and nutrient improvement from the house,” he said. (A2)
