Agricom.id, JAKARTA – Member of Commission IV Indonesian Legislators, Yessi Melania encouraged Perusahaan Umum Badan Urusan Logistik (Perum Bulog) to escalate the work synergy with the officers in Ministry of Agriculture. It is important so that the needs and stock of rice nationally would be in control.

She thought that the rice needs nationally should not be from imports because the domestic production is enough.

“We also urged that the farmers’ crops could be bought in the economic price to increase their welfare and they would have spirit to produce well,” she said in the hearing with the officers of Ministry of Agriculture, Monday (15/3/2021) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

On the other hand, she also told that the plan to do rice import would be the issues for the farmers, namely in the villages. In the very short time, many regions would be in crops.

“We do understand that from this month to May, many regions would be in crops. If the rice import is real, this would be the loss for the farmers,” she said.

General Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture, Momon Rusmono told that by May 2020, there would be available food needs, such as, rice, corn, soybean, onion, chili, meat, and sugar. Everything is in control.

“The rice is in good condition. The farmers are in massive crops. By the end of May it is predicted that the rice would be in surplus up to 12,56 million tons," he said.

He did hope that other ministries and institution should be in synergy in food issue to formulate the strategic things both in its availability and making food agency, or others. “It needs more synergy,” he said. (A2)
