Agricom.id, KUPANG – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) visited Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) to see the location hit by natural disaster, Seroja hurricane and handed over 20 trucks of foods and agricultural tools. It was the quick response of Ministry of Agriculture to fulfill the food needs for the people and would do strategic ways to recover the impacts from disaster, namely to return the paddy, corn, and livestock production.
“I am here for our nation. This is the order of President Joko Widodo too. I want to give emergency helps, such as, food needs and see the agriculture. It was told that the paddy, corn, and livestock were hit by the disaster and need recovery,” he said when giving the food needs together with the Governor of NTT, Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat in Posko Bencana Alam NTT in the office of governor, Saturday (10/4/2021) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.
SYL also mentioned that Ministry of Agriculture would focus to deal with the agricultural impacts. He also told his officers and the regional officers to arrange the right program to recover the production of paddy, corn, and livestock knowing that NTT is the central production of corn and cows.
"I would notice the three issues and order my directors to immediately arrange the real program and agenda,” he said.
He also told to recover the three sectors to re-increase the people’s economy. Every family that was hit by the disaster would get new variety of banana produced by Research and Development Agency Ministry of Agriculture and would get the downstream facility.
“We would prepare 100 thousand banana trees. Every family should plant it. The result would be different from general banana. But what I want to notice is not about eating banana. The result (production) should be processed within home industry. Make nice chips (from banana) to have additional values,” he said.
Governor of NTT, Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat told that the visitation of SYL was not only about to give helps but also to recover and increase the agricultural results, namely paddy, corn, and livestock.
“It is not about giving foods only. One thing for sure, Minister SYL wants to give the main helps in agriculture,” he said.
For information the Seroja hurricane hit NTT on Sunday (4/4/2021). It was destroying everything in NTT for there were wind, flood, and erosion. Besides damaging the buildings, it damaged the agriculture namely paddy, corn, and livestock. There were 20 trucks filled by food needs to be given to the victims in Kupang, District of Malaka, Flores Timur, Lembata, and Sumba Timur. (A2)
