Regents of Barru and Maros Are Optimist in This Crops

Agricom.id, SOUTH SULAWESI – The farmers in South Sulawesi province are happy to the crops in the early of this year where many districts have been running.

They also hoped that the government would maximally absorb their crops. There would be about 429.562 hectares of potential paddy field in the province until April 2021.

Regent of Barru, Suardi Saleh is optimist that the production would be good in this year. Furthermore, Ministry of Agriculture keeps helping and developing them massively.

“In this year, Ministry of Agriculture has helped us for about Rp 4 billion. The production would be increasing up to 3 times in a season. We have calculated that the program in District of Barru in the next year is to develop the modern agriculture,” he said, as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

For information, the production in District of Barru in 2020 reached 135.273 tons of milled dry grain (MDG) or equal to 77.606 tons of rice from about 22.176 hectares of paddy field. The numbers would be increasing in this year because every hectare of the farmers’ areas could produce 8,5 tons.

"The productivity in 2020 was 6,10 tons per hectare. If in this year it could be 8,5 tons per hectare, it means, there would be fabulous increasing because the seeds and fertilizers were well distributed. Alhamdulillah we planted the certified seeds,” he said.

Suardi thought that of 14 districts in South Sulawesi, District of Barru is a consideration because it is one of five districts producing superior paddy to help the food needs in the province.

"Alhamdulillah Agriculture Agency of Barru really supports well. We do thank Minister SYL for his supports,” he said.

Besides in Barru, the harvest is taking place in District of Maros. There would be about 20.484 hectares of potential crops in 2021. The numbers would be more as the wider areas to be in crops too.

“The crops in 2020 covered 44.215 hectares within the paddy production reaching 195.175 tons of MDG or equal to 111.973 tons of rice. The productivity was 4,41 tons per hectare, but it could be 8 tons," Regent of Maros, Syafril Chaidir Syam said when monitoring the crops in Village of Janetaesa, Sub district of Simbang.

He also mentioned that the increasing productivity happens for the superior seeds provided by Ministry of Agriculture. Besides, Ministry of Agriculture provided infrastructure helps and sophisticated tools.

"Alhamdulillah we got the helps in this year for about Rp 2,4 billion," he said.

Chairman of Kelompok Tani Makkatutue, District of Barru, Aslama thanked for the help and the presence of Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo when the farmers are in the crops.

“Representing the farmers, I really thank Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo for giving the helps and attending here and giving inputs when we are in crops,” Aslana said.

For information, Ministry of Agriculture through Komando Strategi Penggilingan Padi (Kostraling) is in cooperation with Perum Badan Urusan Logistik (Perum Bulog) to absorb the paddy production in some regions.

Minister SYL told that the paddy absorption would always be done to anticipate the cheaper price in the field. He told that the government made Tim Terpadu Gerakan Serap Gabah Petani that is regulated in the Documents of of Minister of Agriculture No. 28/TP.100/M/03/2021.

The team consists of the officers from Ministry of Agriculture, Perum Bulog, Dinas Agriculture Agency, Food Security Agency, Industry Agency, Trade Agency, the Army, the Police, Persatuan Pengusaha Penggilingan Padi dan Beras (Perpadi), and Kostraling.

"The team would buy the grain from the farmers based on harga pembelian pemerintah. Insyaallah in this year, it would run well," he said.

Chief of Public Information and Relation Ministry of Agriculture, Kuntoro Boga Andri told that based on the regulation, Ministry of Agriculture would maintain the production and increase the farmers’ welfare. One thing to do is by maintaining the selling price of farmers’ grain.

“One thing for sure, we want that the price would not be cheaper and the farmers could enjoy their hard work. This would be the real thing from the government. In this massive crops, we would be actively going to the fields to maintain the farmers’ selling price. We have to do that the farmers are happy in the massive crops,” he said.

For information, the survey result from kerangka sampel area (KSA) held by Central Bureau of Statistic showed that the potential crops in January–April 2021 would cover 4,86 million hectares or get wider about 1,02 million ha (26,53 percent)  compared to last year in the same period that covered 3,84 million hectares. The wider crops happen for the early of this year namely in the regions where they are in positive trend. (A2)
