Chili Farmers in Producer Centers Agreed to Secure the Stocks Heading to NHD

31 March 2021 , 06:47 WIB, MAGELANG – Heading to Ramadhan and Idul Fitri 1422 Hijriah in 2021, Ministry of Agriculture led by Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) tightly confirmed to provide strategic foods. General Director of Horticulture Ministry of Agriculture, Prihasto Setyanto told that his side and the farmers are optimist that chili supply in this year would be in good condition.

It is revealed by the coordination with farmers (chili) in big producer centers in Java, such as, in Blitar, Kediri, Tuban, Magelang, Temanggung, Kebumen, Boyolali, Banjarnegara, Bandung, Garut, Cianjur, Sumedang, Kulon Progo, and Sleman.

"Heading to Ramadhan and Idul Fitri we have to confirm that the chili is in good production. The woman who was born in Klaten also took the farmers to be in synergy with the (regional) government to maintain the chili stocks. “It could not be put into storage. The stocks should be standing crops. The farmers produce it and we expect that they could be in synergy with us to realize the stable stock and price,” Retno said.

Based on the coordination result with the farmers in the district, it was confirmed that the stocks of kinds of chili are in good numbers. The potential area to chili harvest in April would cover 5.851 hectares, in May would cover 10.178 hectares. The curly chili in April to harvest would be 3.410 hectares, in May would be 3.304 hectares while the big cayenne pepper to harvest in April would be 3.345 hectares and in May would be 2.200 hectares.

"Even though the harvest in Blitar would be decreasing because of the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic, it is predictable that the area to harvest would be wider,” the chili farmer of Blitar, Sarwi told.

The farmer who is also the member of Blitar Legislators told, the district would be in harvest in April – May 2021 which covers about 2.080 hectares and 6.540 hectares in May.

Just like Sarwi, the chili farmer of Magelang, Darno told, the chili volume sent from Magelang to Jakarta would be about 30 trucks.

“One truck could transport about 6,5 tons. It means that the total delivery could be 195 tons per day. It is predicted that the stocks would be in good numbers in April – May 2021,” he said.

The farmers agreed to support everything to the same goodness. They are ready to give thoughts, power, and ideas to make the horticulture, namely chili, go forward.

In his activity to manage food estate in North Sumatra, Director of Vegetables and Medical Plants General Directorate of Horticulture Ministry of Agriculture, Tommy Nugraha kept monitoring the progress of stocks and price. His side is optimist that the two would be in good numbers heading to the National Holy Days (NHD) in this year.

“In one last week, cayenne pepper was Rp 105 thousand/kg in the big markets but it got cheaper until Rp 80 thousand /kg today (28/3). Knowing the price, I am optimist that the chili would be cheaper to the normal price,” he said.

Tommy also continued that his side would arrange the action plans to control chili price fluctuation with the ways to act, starting from increasing the production capacity, chili diversification, until the strengthening backup and logistic system.

“In 2021 General Directorate of Horticulture would develop chili through kampung cabai program. In the future, it would be having facilitation, starting from the breeding until the marketing. The touch of technology would be existing in the seeding nursery to be more efficient in time and the planting could be faster,” General Directorate of Horticulture, Prihasto Setyanto said in the written question, Sunday (28/3).

He also explained that his side would encourage the seeding planting to be hybrid. If the farmers want to plant the local seed, there should be seeding selection from the healthy plants so that they would not having disease to the next planting and the productivity would remain high. (A2)
